I too ran into this issue and you sound similar to me (6'1 165 lbs low 2:30's marathoner). I wore Kayanos for 14 years without any issues. i was reluctant to switch because every time i've been in a difefrent show i get achilles or lower hamstring issuesI switched to Brooks Cascadia - usually $100-110 online. You can get the previous year's model fairly readily as well. They are light-weight trail shoes that are a good transition from the Kayano and have held up well. I'm on my third pair (850 miles total maybe?)Try them out.

Hey everyone --
I'm a longtime wearer of Asics Gel Kayanos and in need of some new kicks but the exhoribant price has finally gotten to me. Anyone else jump ship to a similar but cheaper shoe? If so, what's worked out?
I'm bigger framed (6'1" 175 lbs) and a 2:50 marathon runner and will be training for Boston this winter. Also, pretty neutral footstrike and have year-old orthotics.
Cheers
