hey, took the psat as a sophomore and for my nmsq score i got 190. Does anyone know what the cut off last year was? Was I close or wayy off it? I was looking over my old test and i made silly mistakes, do I have a shot this year?

The cutoff depends on the state you're in. Last year it was in the low 200s in some states, but as high as the low 220s in others. (Basically, rich states with good schools = high cutoff, poor or low population states with indifferent to bad schools = low cutoff.) So you're close, if you've learned something in the last year, gotten better at taking standardized tests, and have gotten better at catching your own mistakes.
sweet, im in a pretty bad education state, thanks
BOIII ur some cut. Even the worst states have cutoffs of about 209. I got a 225 last year and im not even the smartest in my grade. Did u prepare this year? If u did u would have maybe the slightest shot.
fair enough, yeah i looked over old test questions. Im pretty smart like i always do well on standardized tests, idk what happened last year, just wasn't feeling it and looking over the questions I got some stupid ones wrong.
215 was typical. 209 was lowest of the low. I squeaked by with a 222 in Oregon. Good luck.
Here are the per-state cutoffs by state for 2015:

, The lowest cutoff was 201. The new format has a larger scale, so the lowest is now 206.
My kid received a 238, and since her high school routinely has 25 National Merit Finalists (school in the DC area), she was actually worried about whether she would receive the award. And the scholarship was no great shakes, leaving me to pay the additional 58 grand at her so-called prestige college (it was great education, I might add).
I just let her be. She needed no guidance, direction, or anything else from me when it came to academics. She did need love and food and shelter and transportation (and lots of clothes - should have owned stock in J. Crew). On one hand, it was an easy ride as a parent, but on the other, happiness and productivity are about a lot more than being good at school or on standardized tests. Not an easy lesson to convey to someone so competitive.
