I have been thinking of applying to be a non faculty assistant xc/track coach. Anybody know what I should expect to get paid and how much time is involved?

It would vary depending on what the typical pay is in your area, and what the program head coach will need from you.
They're called volunteers around here.
In my state schools are not allowed to pay coaches who aren't teachers.
If memory serves me right, my wife got $1-2K for indoor. She's now a head xc coach in a different district and made about $4-5K for the season. It's not a way to get rich. It consumes several hours every day during the week, plus some weekend days
I believe our non-faculty assistant coach gets paid a few thousand/season. Hours depend largely on the program, and if you take a position you'll probably realize you're getting underpaid. It's worth it if you enjoy it.
In my school district head coaches make about $5k, and assistants about half of that. We expect about 2.5 hours per day on practice days and significantly more on meet days. As head coach I put in probably another 10 hours per week in practice planning plus out of season education and season outlining. As an assistant I put in significantly less time on that stuff.
