Why isn't it stressed that Prefontaine was a moron? Guy could've killed someone driving drunk

Nike needed to whitewash his story to sell more product. All about the $$$.
He did. Himself
It wasn't illegal in the 50s. Haven't you watched Mad Med?

Plenty of people think he was an idiot, including myself. If the story was different and he had killed someone else then he would have been forgotten and brushed under the rug, instead he killed himself and made himself an icon. Makes no sense.
He did. He killed himself. But it wasn't his fault. Isn't there a story about some kid and his dad that were there trying to lift the car?
Maybe because not everyone is shallow and miserable like you and doesn't try to label someone a bad guy for one stupid thing they did. He accomplished a lot and inspired many.

So, if driving a car in a school zone at 75 mph is not a violation at the time - so the driver can not be faulted for endagering the kids?
I am by no means religious, but I believe the saying goes "let he who is without sin be the first to cast a stone."
Because runners are naturally depressed people who all drink and run heavily to escape the realities of life.
This is why LR is filled with angry depressed people.
Everytime I see "stop pre" I think, that rock did.
It was illegal in the 50s. The penalties just weren't as harsh as they are today.
fifties???
Actually the driver that ran Pre off the road was drunk. That's why he left the scene.

What a f'ing joke. Accomplished a lot by running fast around a track? Is you're going to tell me that was the first time he got wasted and got in his car. He was an egomaniac a-hole who happened to run fast. Sorry but I'm not inspired.

More likely would have killed someone texting......and be cited for failure to control vehicle. True story here.
Where the heck is MADD - Mothers Against Distracted Driving?
People in general were more naive about the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol than we are now. We've come a long way in that regard.
But, if there were some way to prove it, I would bet that 90% of people who drink and also drive cars have at one time or another got behind the wheel with at least a good buzz going. I have been guilty myself Im sorry to say. Fortunately I gave up drinking many years ago, but I guess that's beside the point.
Pre didn't run in the 50s. I assume you mean the 40s.
I didn't realize that he was a Mormon
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
