Listening to the sound of your steps, losing yourself in thought, hearing your own breathing, hearing wind cutting through the trees, or most importantly the sound of a vehicle from behind you! Many reasons to pass on music while running no matter how far the distance is. Long ago i used to run races (and training) with music because I believed i was special and had to have it in order to function, never realized how much I detached myself from the race listening to over played playlists. Also, playing around trying to find the right song or ear buds pop out really mess up your run and take away from the workout too. If music is playing it should be coming from the finish line to encourage you to push through and get closer with every step along with people cheering and supporting you. Can't hear that with your mind detached into a playlist. Not to mention you become more intuned with your actual running effort. Just a rant i wanted to let out.
