Stabbing Arch Pain

Definitely pf. I bet your muscles and tendons are a lot tighter than you think. Everyone's cure is different. My pf lasted 1 year before I took it seriously. I walked barefoot on pavement and yoga 6 days a week eliminated it in about 3 weeks. The pose downward dog works miracles. I still do yoga twice a week and have been injury free since.

Had a similar situation. 50MPW and started getting pain in my arch around four miles into a run. Did some reading up on it and concluded it was either Plantar Fasciitis, bone spur, or stress fracture. Five week wait for a doctor appointment.. awesome.

I was due for a new shoes so I swung by my local running store. I was using Gel Nimbus 17s for the past 10 months which I change out after 350-400 miles and rotate between pairs daily. They did a stride analysis and pointed out that I was using the wrong shoes. They put me in some GT-2000s and Wave Inspires and boom... no pain after 2 runs. Turns out it was as simple as not having the right shoes.

So yeah, have your stride analyzed or re-analyzed. Even if you *think* your in the right shoes your stride may have changed.

Gave myself PF after wearing stiff boots for a few months at a job that involves a lot of standing and walking. Custom orthos didn't even help. Got some zero drop shoes, refocused my efforts on an efficient forefoot strike while running and regularly rolled / stretched my calves and now rarely have arch pain. It may seem like the opposite for someone with arch pain but the last thing you want is a thick supportive shoe with arche support, all that does it enable your feet to continue being coddled. They need to learn to support themselves without shoes.

Your feet and calves are likely weak when it comes to supporting your stride without the crutch of running shoes. It will take time to strengthen your foot and ankle / calves but do anything you can to stop using shoes as a cast around weak feet.

Sounds like PF related problem.

Stop running or it will never go away. Rest for a week and gradually return to running.

Stop running on the road if you are

Active Release Therapy worked wonders for me. I had the same problem for about 10 months until I went to a certified ART provider. About a month later it was completely gone and I'm back to 50 mpw without any pain.

Also, change out your shoes.

I've tried everything short of injections or surgery for PF.

A monthly, PAINFUL massage combined with compulsive foam rolling have reduced the flare-ups by 90+%. (Now it primarily gets pissy during speedy track work, but I can plan around it. They also aren't as severe. It used to feel like I was gonna tear my arch.)

I also bought Plantar Fasciitis night boots. Not the sock. Straight up boots. Had them fitted. I can't make it all night but a few hours works wonders.

If you want your PF cured in about a week, let me know. I cured mine in less than a week - one with PF in left foot with pain in arch and the other in right foot. The left food pain I had had for over 2 years.

Good point. Essentially the same treatment - let the pain settle with rest, ice, NSAIDs, then rehab it with stretching and strengthening. Get fresh shoes, don't go crazy thinking orthotics/extra support are the answer (they aren't - strengthening your weak feet is), lose weight if you are carrying any extra.
