I am a sophomore in high school and am trying to figure out how to improve my 400-800m speed in order to improve my time in the 1600m next spring. I have terrible sprinting speed (15 sec 100m) but am able to compete in the 1600&3200. My freshman times in these events were 4:54 and 10:40. (Which of these times is better?) I like the 1600 a lot more than the 3200 and I want to be a miler. In order to improve my 1600, I feel that I need to improve my sprint speed as well as keep my endurance. (I will be doing 50mpw w tempos/fartleks/progressions in the winter) How should I go about improving my 400m speed in order to improve my 1600m ability?
