They went out and got toasted then lied about what happened. In the grand scheme of things it is nothing. Nothing. Yet, everyone acting like they committed murder or something worse. Get over it people!

As the Nixon team found out following Watergate, it's not the crime it's the cover-up that will get you. Their lies created an international incident (detaining athletes at the airport as they try to leave the country, and such a the biggest world-wide media event of the year--yeah that's an international incident). Is it overblown by the media. Yes. But when you have 10,000 of the world's journalists within 10 miles, things might get blown up a bit.
One more thing, DD. You need to get over yourself. Move along now.
When you lie about a crime being committed against you, you set in motion a chain of events that could easily lead to an innocent person being arrested.
here's the issue: wrote:

That is fine. But, they apologized and one paid $11k. They made a mistake and are paying the consequences. But it was simply a lie and some vandalism. Can't we let it rest now?

Because YOU are not a sponsor, and you are not a country that was force to apologize to the world's media in response to a blatant lie someone told that world media.
Some lies have small consequences.
Some lies have big consequences.
People in important places have a greater capacity to make more of the latter.
So saying someone simply "lied" doesn't always address the issue.
Libs have a frightening obsession with white males. Team USA's Draymond Green physically assaulted a college student and you barely hear a peep from media libs. Ryan Lochte lied about having a gun pointed to his head and journalism majors make it the biggest scandal of the Rio Olympics. What else did you expect?

Nicely said.

I blame the society that put Lochte in an "important place" in the first place.
If he were a nobody (as he should be), this story would be nothing.

The media is pretending to be concerned, attempting to keep people focused on a minor event in order to direct attention away from Obama's ineptitude (latest example his golfing while LA sinks), and Hillary's confirmed criminality and traitorous behavior, among other issues the Red Diaper Babies, the eternal victims (who really never were victimized at the levels of horror they levied at their victims) try to keep out of the public's eye.

If he was a nobody he wouldn't be on international TV telling a lie that embarrasses an entire country, and forcing that country to apologize to him.
Agreed Debbie. Now if only they scrutinized a certain former Secretary of State and presidential candidate the same way, she would be in prison already.
Lochte made the media and the Brazilian authorities look bad. It's hardly surprising they're not going to let him off easily.
It's like screwing over the intelligence community if you're a politician.
They WILL repay you for it.
This is the very reason the U S is hated world wide. Anericans think they can do anything they want to anywhere they go. He is truly the "ugly Americsn".
In part, no doubt, because he's white--it fits the lefty narrative about white privilege, colonialism, the patriarchy, etc.
I hate how one person downplays his actions by calling him a boy out having fun, and suddenly the SJW's come out in droves as though that singular response was the predominant one....
We are living in the age of identity politics, in which every action encapsulates and indicts whole groups of people--depending, of course, on where that group fits on the spectrum of perceived privilege/lack of privilege.
