We've just been told the German language petition with 35,000+ signatures has been translated to English:
https://www.change.org/p/do-not-punish-the-whistleblower-julia-stepanowa-for-rio
We're going to see if we can merge ours with theirs or maybe just delete ours.
How about asking IAAF to live up to the conditions of the Independent Commission report and provide financial assistance to the Stepanovs? How about it Brojos?
Kara Goucher has signed it already. As has Magness.
Someone get Montano to sign. She's the one who has been most screwed by the Russians over the years.
I strongly encourage everyone to sign both petitions.
Yuliya Stepanov was part of the Russian doping system, but she should be forgiven.
She should also be rewarded for what she has done for clean sport.
The world needs more people like Yuliya and Vitaly Stepanov.
If you want to help eradicate doping from sport, then sign the petitions!
I think she should be supported and thanked for her bravery. But because she is a former doper, I don't have a strong desire to see her compete at the olympics. We know she was a willing participant of a doping system so bad we banned an entire country from T&F. Because she finally decided to do the right thing (after being caught) she gets to be special and take the spotlight from athletes who (presumably) have been competing clean their whole lives?
The IOC is inviting her and her husband as guests. I'd be in support of more off the track ways to honor her. But when it comes time for the 800 prelims, I'm fine if she is not running, she didn't meet the IOC rules for being allowed to compete.
She knew the rules, she knew it came with a risk of being banned.
I'm with norphxc
No. She destroy motherland.
There are numerous athletes in a similar situation to Yuliya Stepanov. They are from every country on the planet.
In most cases, they are not part of a state sponsored doping program, but they have their own secret network.
The code of silence among dopers has to be broken. Whistle-blowers have to be protected and rewarded.
The Olympics are a gigantic fraud in more ways than one. If nothing changes now, then they always will be.
Why does Stepanova want to be in the Olympics against a bunch of dopers anyway?
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
