Say you are doing a 3 mile interval on the track and you want to run each 400 in 1:30 because the overall pace that you want to run per mile is 6:00. After a couple of laps right at 1:30 you have a 3rd lap that is 1:25. On the next lap do you continue to try to hit 1:30 and thus might end up running a 5:55 mile instead of 6:00 or do you try to run a 1:35 to even out the mile pace? The reason I ask is that I find I am often 2-5 seconds faster per 400 then I intend to be and over the course of 4 laps that adds up to quite a bit. But it also seems counter-productive to run a 400 at a slower pace than the intended mile pace. Thoughts on this?
