So, I just learned that I messed up when completing my company's annual health care enrollment on-line form. I can make all sorts of excuses, but end result is that I forgot to sign my wife and kids up for medical coverage and I have to own up to being an idiot - I now have "employee only" coverage. Some small saving grace is that I did sign them up for everything else, prescription, dental, vision....My HR department is telling me that since the annual enrollment period is over, they can't add my family to the plan unless there is a qualifying event (apparently being a dolt that is forced to use a system designed by chimpanzees does not qualify). The new coverage period starts on July 1, so it's not like we haven't paid premiums or are trying to game the system in any way, just want correct a user entry error. I don't understand why this is such a big deal, particularly after the ACA, which was supposed to make access to health care easier for everyone.
LRC, I need help. Anyone know why this is an issue or have any suggestions? Do I have to go to the on-line health care exchanges?
