Pat Casey didn't get reduced in 2015. He should have as well as many other OTC athletes. The majority of them are a bunch of overpaid alcoholic children. Especially Casey.
J-mac and Mulder got reduced. Surprised Casey didn't.

And now he's pandering to Nike to save him the next go around. Wish athletes would stand up for other athletes. It's all business, Nike doesn't care personally about Casey but they make it so he thinks they do.

THIS. Of course it's all business! What else would it be? This isn't a charity. Even in college, if you don't perform you get your scholarship cut. I don't understand why people think reduction clauses are so sinister. They make perfect sense to me.
Do you get to keep your job when you don't accomplish what they tell you to accomplish? For a very short period maybe, but eventually you'll get fired! Or a reduction in salary. You don't get paid for what they hope you would do, but what you actually do. Nothing wrong with reduction clauses.
If the guy is out for the year with injuries, he needs to get a regular job while he recovers.
So he makes a public statement that he wasn't reduced in 2015 and two days later makes another announcement that he won't be running in 2016.
Better get prepared to lose some $$ in 2017.

Have you ever had a job? Your salary doesn't get reduced unless they file for bankruptcy or something else NOT-EMPLOYEE-PERFORMANCE based. Never ever. (Note - commission is fundamentally different, and is an apples to oranges comparison.)
Yes I've had a job. I've always met or exceeded expectations so never had salary reduced. You really think bankruptcy is the only time a company can/will reduce your pay? What are you basing this on? Because I can base my statements on actual real life circumstances where employees have not done their jobs accordingly and therefore A. had pay reduced B. not gotten standard cost of living increase or C. been terminated all together. Albeit, C is the most likely outcome of not performing the job you were required to do, it is the same principle.

Track athletes should be trying to get guaranteed contracts like all athletes fight for. I don't care if its unfair or not how it is in the corporate world. Pat Casey comes across as a real Uncle Tom in his post.

Obviously trolling.
"You really think bankruptcy is the only time a company can/will reduce your pay?"
No, as I stated "...bankruptcy or something else..."
Your statements about employees having their pay reduced are not true. That isn't what happens in at any company the real world. There are laws in place for this type of thing and you are making things up that cannot be proven.
As I said, obviously trolling.
Does any other sport have salary reduction clauses in athlete contracts?

No.
Probably makes $20,000 a year at the most. Nike probably doesn't even remember he runs for them.

I bet they do. Not basketball, football ect but I bet some of the other niche sports do.
Scenario:
So Pat tells Nike he isn't running in 2016. Nike go to reduce him and,
"oh we could have reduced him last year but missed that. Woops. Hey this actually works out perfectly, tell Pat to make a statement or we'll reduce him going forward."
I... personally... feel... that this is much more likely to have been the cause for his statement than anything else.
it's just another subversive and lame attempt by mediocre otc guys (casey, fleet) to undermine another mediocre runner's (leer) attempt to disparage nike. grow up, and go train. shut your mouths and pay attention to the business at hand.

It would be interesting to know if these are standard in contracts for swimming or gymnastics (or tennis).
Hmm that's weird...countless other articles I can site if you don't believe my personal experience.

I can't imagine what his teammates think. There's a reason why you shouldn't discuss your salary with co-workers. It builds resentment, especially among those who make less (or get reduced, or threatened by reductions).
