I've also tried the Structures and had issues with them. However in terms of spikes I've always been a huge Nike fan.
For cross country there are a lot of really good options. The Nike Zoom Victory 2's are more of a track spike, however they are a very good XC spike also. They are light and responsive and in my case durable. However I know some people have had bad experiences with them in terms of durability. Another good one is the Nike Zoom Victory XC 3. I wore these last season and although a really good spike, for me it was just a bit to much racing only 5k. However if you are in college and are racing 8k and 10k this may be perfect for you. I've seen a lot of excellent college runners wearing these. It weighs around 5.5 ounces compared to the Victory 2's which weigh around 3.5. That may not make a difference to you but for me it did. Other than that though the XC 3's are a solid spike. A couple others that I personally haven't tried, but have heard good things about are the Saucony Carreras (I'm also a big fan of Saucony, they make quality products in my experience), Brooks Mach 18, and Nike Zoom Victory Matumbo's which is like a mix of the Victory 2's and the XC 3's. All are worth checking out.
Now onto track, I would first recommend again Nike Zoom Victory 2's. I think they are more responsive on the track than XC. But when you go up to 10k you may want something more like the Matumbo's. They weigh exactly the same but the Matumbo's have a noticeable more amount of support. Another of my favorites is the New Balance LD5000v3. I believe this show is for 3k-5k and weighs 4.3 ounces I believe. But it's a good quick spike and it is probably the best looking to me ;)
So that's really all I got for you. Note that I am in high school so I personally have not run in a spike over 5k. However I have heard a lot about each spike that I recommended so I do know that all the options I listed above should seem reasonable to you. Good luck on your season!
