Are you attempting to sprint? Is this how you run in races? Is this easy for you? It looks robotic and uncomfortable.
Around 75-80% effort
This would be how my first lap is run of the 32 or the 16 (65 ish)
Is this in Columbus, Ohio?
Also, I have custom orthotics and the podiatrist has me wearing 11 oz shoes to start with.
Shoes are around 15-16 oz (with insert inside) and have a 10mm heel-to-toe drop, so trying to run anything other than easy pace is hard in these shoes (maybe making it robotic)?
Michigan, actually
This is decent middle distance form. You are sitting a bit though, you can see it easily if you stop the video and see how much knee bend you have with your support foot directly below you.
I would say this form is too aggressive for the 3200 though, assuming you're not one of the very few people running close to 4 flat pace for your 2 mile. Too much knee drive for the mile and up.
I would echo the above statement about it looking a bit robotic. You would be well served to relax a bit, especially in your arms. Some of this could be because you knew you were filming it and trying really hard to run "right."
Overall I think you're mostly cuing the right things though.
How would I correct the sitting?
Hah, I said I would run my first lap of the 32 like this; I never said I could hold it
I've recently been making an effort of doing Dopeazars nipple to nipple, as I have never really used my arms previously.
too much vertical arm movement
U seem like a good kid. Brave to post a video on this site of yourself amd ask to be critized. Having watched the video.... And as a distance runner ( assuming thats what you are) your knee lift seems exaggerated amd forced. You have a good stride. But don't force your knee lift so much you can't hold that for anything a mile and above.

This. All that wasted power with little forward momentum. The cue should be to drive the knee forward, not lift/push it up. You are reinforcing that exaggerated knee lift by bringing your arms up that high too. The fastest way to run is putting energy forward, not up. By driving the knee forward, it will automatically lift itself to your speed without having to waste energy in a direction you are not travelling.
I see what you all mean about my arms, I'll work on it. Yes, the knee lift is too high for 1500+, This would roughly be my 800 (hard to tell exactly how fast/slow I was running)
Just curious, what are your prs? And why the awareness of form?
Seems like you aren't relaxing and you're forcing your knees up and your hands are moving very high
Ran 4x8 like twice in slow duel meets (run to win)
2:10 anchor split (usually like 60 then a 70 when I was on my own)
Ran mile twice 4:50
Ran 3200m quite a bit (although it's for developing endurance and I'll move down to 800 and this and senior year) ran 10 flat ish
My max mileage has been a around 60 (not sustained). I hope to run at a decent d1 school so I need to drop my times down. I've started lifting, stretching, and will sustain 75 mpw this summer.
800m and 1600m times aren't representative of my ability in those, I'd say last track season I was capable of 2:03 and 4:40 (had I run them more)
dude relaxxxx you seem to be wasting a lot of energy with tension.
So far these suggestions have been made
1) relax
2) don't "sit" as much
3) don't pump arms up and down as much
Biggest thing is relax your shoulders. This is only 8 seconds so you can't really tell if you would relax them a bit more after awhile. Try to just 'feel' smoother if you can understand that.
I would pretty much echo the other folks in this thread and just say "relax." As a former low 9's guy for 3200 and D1 runner, the best thing to do in HS is to run miles and learn to race. Don't get too caught up with form mechanics unless you're really having injury problems.
Why are you wearing orthotics and special shoes? Are you having major issues?
Props for trying to get better.
