Who would you pick?
Who would you pick?
If you were a coach, who would you rather have as an incoming frosh?
Hunter or Slagowski?
Slagowski because Hunter runs like an old man.
Slagowski for sure. Hunter is gonna be burned out by the time he's 20.
Either. Both are immediate impact recruits with huge potential. Hunter if I'm more distance-oriented, like Colorado; Slagowski if I'm a mid-D powerhouse like Penn State. Both work great for a school like Oregon.
It's so hard to tell with recruits. Some, like Ritz, run 100 miles a week in high school and improve immensely off the huge heights they'd already reached; others, even with only modest training in high school, do not improve the slightest bit. I do know Hunter isn't overtrained, and his training has in fact been geared toward the future. Slagowski I know comparatively little about, although with his improvement curve he clearly has upside.
In 8 years, will Slagowski be an Olympic medal threat and Hunter a guy with a 3:57i and 7:59i PR, or will Hunter be the top pro and Slagowski the "Tim Danielson" (minus the murders since Slagowski seems like a good guy) of this class? No one has any idea. Maybe they'll both be great--Maton and Fisher are doing pretty well. Maybe they'll both suck. Who knows. Someone will come on in half a decade and say "I told you so" either way.

Yesterday (on TV) was the first time I've seen Hunter run. He didn't look smooth. I was thinking 'he doesn't look like a sub-4 guy'.
