I'm confused. OSU gets all this top-talent from in-state and out-of-state and yet at the end of each season the team consistently performs the WORST it has all season. It happened all last year, it happened at Big Ten XC this past November and it's happening again. What is the deal? Is it the coaching? For the talent level they have they absolutely suck. I think it's time for a new coach. I honestly feel really bad for the kids.
Time for new distance coaches for both the Men's and Women's programs...
Ohio has some great high school distance runners but OSU is not getting them or developing the ones they have....

They also fail to investigate training backgrounds of their recruits. Many were excessive high mileage, overworked, and overraced in high school, yet they wonder why they do not develop.
To be fair, they are a relatively young program. However, with the number of sub 9:10 and sub 4:15 guys they have, I would think they would have more impressive team/individual performances.
New year, same issues:
The HEAD coach doesn't care about distance, thus they will continue to have less resources in that event group.
However, Sprints will continue to dominate.

I really don't know if the head coach cares or not, but the rest seems like an easy excuse. What resources is the distance coach lacking? They get state champs and high finishing athletes from a pretty good state. I think they target the wrong high school recruits. They seem to want the 9:00-9:10 kid who ran a lot of miles and raced a lot. In most cases most of their talent has already been revealed. It appears that they pass on the 9:10-9:20 kids on limited mileage and races because "they are not fast enough." Many of these kids go to other schools with a lot flourishing.

That could be true (true or not) for all top runners in the country. Not just those going to TOSU.
How many scholarships do they have for men and women distance runners?
