I'm a freshman D1 track scholarship athlete at a small d1 program. This weekend is our conference meet, it is also our final exams week. Since my last meet, about 2 weeks ago, I have been under the impression that I was not going to race at the conference meet. I have had a long season and the tail end of my season has not been so great, I am really in need of a break. However, as of a few minutes ago, I have been told that I now am going to the conference meet for the 10K, I am also currently sick, nothing too serious but I haven't run the last 2 days.
I really don't want to race, or feel up to racing at all, I think it will be far better for me not to. But am I allowed to just tell my coach no? He isn't the most understandable guy. On top of this, it will mean having to re-schedule a lot of my exams at the last minute causing a lot more pointless stress. As an NCAA athlete what are my rights in this situation?
