I'm heading into my senior year of track in college, so my very last year, and I want to be ready and strong for the season. I went through 2 excruciating years at a CC under a coach who was absolutely clueless. My coach at my university I transferred to said he's definitely making cuts this year so I need to be on my A game and not get injured again. To make a long story short I got injured this past year (nothing serious, just a bad case on tendinitis in my left knee which could have a very minor tear in the Patella Tendon), got a misdiagnosis from a PT (she said it was a partially torn ACL and it wasn't after getting an X-Ray done from another doctor), and am not running because of the misdiagnosis. If it was diagnosed properly, I'd be running this season and wouldn't even be asking this question.
My question is though, since I've been off and on running and only have been consistently weight training, how do I build a base as a sprinter/jumper? I'm a 200/400 guy but I long and triple jumped in high school and I was going to long jump this year before I got hurt. My high school PRs would've placed me top 5 in our Indoor and Outdoor Conference Meet this past season in both jumps, which is why I'm jumping this upcoming season. We do get summer programs in late June or early July because our coach gives the athletes about a month off to recover before we start training for the next season. Me, since I've not been running much, am going to start training next week when I go home for summer. I just have no clue how I build a good base and I want to make the team so I need to be 100% healthy and back in good shape. So what should I do?
