+1
Toxic wastelands = NJ + LR
New Jersey is home to some of the most bitter people Ive ever met.
Is it in the water? The hostile upbringing in the slums? The big brother issue with surrounding states?
It's burnout fatigue and over crowding. The lack of meditative green space doesn't help either.
I don't disagree with you guys, but It really depends on where you are in the state. There are some seriously great communities and beautiful towns where the people aren't like that. There is just HUGE contrast between cities like Paterson, Newark, Camden etc and great towns (with awesome running options btw) like Montclair, Glen Ridge, Maplewood/South Orange, ridgewood, Millburn/Short Hills, Princeton etc

I DO disagree with those guys. I know a lot of folks from NJ. As would be expected they are a mix of smart and not so smart, fun and not so fun, relaxed and not so relaxed... Same as any other state.

Warren County here, hundreds of miles of trails of your choice: single track, rail trails, etc, all within 5 minutes of my house. There are ~5 state parks all butting up next to me and another if I drive 10 minutes in any direction.
I don't know if I would really consider the places mentioned above to be towns with "awesome running options". Way too much population in those areas and really not many trails or parks.
Warren County is very nice. I was talking relative to other options that are 30-40 minute easy commute (i.e. Direct train) to NYC (with the exception of Princeton). There are a lot more parks and trails then you might be aware of and not just South Mountain Reservation (20,000 acres with tons of trails)
Don't listen to the bitter people on this thread. They probably have never lived in NJ. Just like any other state there are going to be good and bad parts and it really boils down to an individial's living situation and preferences. I live in Weehawken (Hudson county) and love it. There are plenty of good running routes along the waterfront and NYC is a quick ferry ride away.

Yeah I suppose there are good running options for such a populated area.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
