Just a fantastic exhibition of how to close a marathon. Those of us with aging bodies and less-than-ideal form can watch and think: that's what the perfect combination of power, endurance, and indomitable will looks like.

Another example of midfoot strike being superior to heal strike

Heal strike is the best for recovery.

Good one. Heel strike, however, is worse for your knees. Most runners I know that quit because of knee problems were terrible heel strikers/brakers.

A beautiful display of poise and pure control. His move was effortless and he looked like he was following a DL pacer through 3k in a sit-and-kick 5000m, despite closing on 2:03 in CR marathon.
As exciting and interesting as the recent crop of record-chasing east africans have been over the last decade, it's stunning to watch the likes of Geb, Bekele and Kipchoge jump onto the big roads. A decade of calculated training and miler speed is awesome to see commanding the pack in a marathon. No disrespect to the 23 y/o 2:05 stars, but the decades-built racers are a thing of beauty.
yes, you have to wonder what Kiprop will be like at the marathon.
BTW, is there a replay of the whole marathon?

I see what you did there. Well done.
Thanks for the post...amazing how easy they make that fast pace look.
amazing video thanks! wrote:

I can tell you the answer:
He would go to the front at 13 miles, develop a 100m lead, then unexpectedly drop all the way back through the field, then in the final mile he passes all 25,000 competitors FTW.

God he looked good.
Anyone have a high res pic of the face palm right before the finish?
With 800 to go the WR could have been his if he were aware :/
I like the idea of the track guys moving up and dominating the roads. It's a reversion to the previous paradigm. So many road racers seem wobbly or have glaring form irregularities. Cringeworthy sometimes.
No one runs more powerfully than prime Bekele. Ridiculously snappy stride with the maximally high turnover.
That said, it would be a total dream to see Lagat's absolutely sublime form set a WR in the marathon. (I know it's not happening. I can fantasize doe.)

Walking is better for recovery.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
