I need some money to help me get rid of my credit card debt. Should I sell my Olympic Gold?
I'm hoping to get about 15k for it.

If you know you got gold, then who gives a shit about a physical medal? Sell it.
Worth about $550. 99% silver. 1% Gold.

I'm guessing people would be willing to pay much more for an Olympic gold than just its melted down value.
You should be able to get at least 15k for it, maybe even more from a rich and willing person.

Not even a tiny clue regarding the event? Summer or Winter?

Yes, for sure. But how to sell it without getting the USOC/IOC sending strongly worded letters from lawyers?
I think it would sell for at least 10-15,000, maybe double that if you had a good way to sell it and took your time.
Winter Olympics half the value of summer. Joke sports like pentathlon also demote value.
If you can't handle the credit card debt without selling the medal, you'll likely be in the same shape again in a year or two, but without the gold medal. Then what are you going to do? Instead of waiting for that moment, do those things now. You'll get out of debt and still have the medal. The sale of a gold medal is probably not enough money by itself to be life-altering for you.
Didn't Zatopek just give one of his away to Ron Clarke? I don't think anybody cares what you do with it

Hi Mo!!
Why are you idiots responding to an obvious troll?
Troll thread but at least it gives me a reason to post this link...
Class.
It is 99% zinc and is painted on with gold colored paint. You can get a couple of bucks at Goodwill.
Is it an exhibition/demonstration sport gold?
Like Lawn Bowling in the 1984 L.A. Olympics?

0/10
I have done something similar and have no regrets. I have sold marathon finisher's medals for a tidy little sum and have not regretted it for a minute. I listed mine on Craig's list and had good luck. Make sure you advertise 'Serious offer's only', if not you will get some jokers offering up their younger sister, their mom, etc. I used my medals to raise the money for a downpayment on a house, so that is nothing to sneeze at. I imagine an olympic medal will fetch similar returns.
Good luck and keep it real.

Sounds like a pretty good deal for a finisher's medal...
I guess this troll has got so many replies because it pleases the sour might-have-beens that populate this message board. To think a professional athlete in some way regrets his career or 'realises' his best achievement is 'worthless' must make some salivate.
I bet most would PM you and offer a small fortune to get an Olympic gold.

Trolling the troll. Nice.
