What happened?!? She just stepped off the track and was crying
What happened?!? She just stepped off the track and was crying
already broken after 6 months of college running.
too thin.
needs food.
When the camera panned to her after she stepped off the track, her upper right thigh was covered in lots of small bruises....concerning.....
I heard the announcer say something about knee pain. Also trying to fix it up for tomorrow so she can run again. I thought if you drop out, you're out of all of your remaining competitions?
Does that mean anything medically?
Announcer claims that her mother had to calm her down after she received a B on a grammar school assignment. I wonder if this was worse.
The word is knee pain. She hasn't run in a week or two b/c of it apparently.
why wouldn't you scratch then?

And so it begins...
The announcers said she told them she had been having knee pain and hadn't run in two weeks. The ncaa rule is that you have to give an honest effort or you're out of the rest of the meet, which they don't always enforce, but I would think she wouldn't be allowed in the 3k after a DNF.
If there were bruises around her knee (which I didn't see so can't confirm), they could be due to graston which is a treatment used to try to remove scar tissue and leaves big bruises.
I would think 1) nutrition issues or 2) self-harm. Though no one but those closest to her have any real clue.

Surely a running injury is more plausible than either of those suggestions? Find a college runner who never get injured
If the bruise comment is real, could be a treatment as a number of injury treatments can cause bruises
she is running too many races, still too young, has not built up the strength to handle the workload. these colleges over use these runners and many end up broken for good. hopefully that is not the case here, because she is a talent, but why be running so much indoors now with the outdoor season being more important, also the Olympic Trials but by then she will be injured or have run too many races.
remember she is not the first super freshman.....remember super freshman from north Carolina state and California ? were are they now?
My thoughts were regarding the bruises, not the knee injury; but you're right, it could be aggressive treatment on the quads to address the knee problem.
Or anemia but I guess that's covered under nutrition issues (although you could get it with adequate nutrition but too much mileage)
Also possibly a fall if she was trail running (which she likes) and had an accident although I doubt she'd do that leading up to the race. I only suggest it because it happened to me recently haha
Having not seen myself it's hard to speculate
Hoping this is a one-off. Didn't Molly have injury issues last year?

I think those are marks from the suction-cup thingys that are used to release muscles. Always seemed like voodoo to me.
The acupuncture/Chinese cupping? I think it is voodoo but I was including that under "treatment" in any event as I know it's quite common

yeah - that. it looked like marks from that running down her IT band. would be consistent with a knee injury.
But it looked like tiny scratches, not really bruises. What treatment would lead to that.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
