She came from Providence in September, I believe.
So she's only trained with Flanagan for ~4 months?
(Sep)-Oct-Nov-Dec-Jan-Feb (.5)
Either way, a full marathon training cycle.
Wow so they've become this close after only training together for about 5 months? Well I suppose they probably knew each other beforehand...

It was a very solid strategy. Cragg insured she'd have someone to train with. Her training would be very different from Shalane's if Shalane were training for say Chicago instead of Rio.

Runner's World:
Flanagan.
"After taking sixth place at the world championships, she took a two-week break and then started marathon training. Ten days later, she discovered a stress reaction in her foot. By the time it healed, only 10 weeks remained until the trials—and the niggles kept creeping up on her, in the form of back and Achilles pain."
They only trained together for 2.5 months, and initially Flanagan would have been coming off the injury at a lower level of fitness.
So how long did they actually train at a hard level together.
I guess if they were at altitude and ate and ran together for a couple of months they could bond.
Yes it all happened quite suddenly..
