I was given orthotics by my orthopedic doctor last year during track season because I was having ankle pain when I ran. As soon as I got the orthotics my ankle pain deminished instantly. As my ankle pain went away, I started developing pain on the inside of my shin. I never took more than a week off running and I ran with my orthotics (and my shin pain) for around 6 months. Ranging at about 30 mile weeks. Some where towards the end of the 6 months my shin pain got to to point where I couldn't walk. I got an MRI and I have a severe stress fracture in my shin. I was out of running for 5 months and I am just now starting back. I have ran two or three times and I feel pain once again in the same muscle in my shin. It's not the stress fracture again because when I press on the bone it doesn't hurt, but the muscle is sore. The muscle is kind of sore in the same spot on my other leg. Long story short, are my orthotics cause me this shin pain? I had them custom made. I've heard stories of people's orthotics causing them pain (shin realted) and I was wondering that if I should call it quits with using them. Anyone ever have a similar experience?
