I think Twitter will die off. It's probably not sustainable in this generation of rapid advancement and some other idea will replace it. It's getting annoying for me. It started with only the cool people on it, but now the average joes are trying to take it over too. Facebook seems pretty authentic though, but hey, so did MySpace. (as much as I'd hope for it to fade away).
I suspect that some major corporations pushed this idea to get their tweets pushed to the top of the list, giving twitter some cash on the side to implement it. I could easily envision a work-order signed by major corporations for twitter to have their engineering team implement this.
If twitter goes down the snarky comments on Letsrun might increase.

Seeing as how fast periscope is growing while being named by Apple App of the year, and their massively added reach in the last 6 months for tweets, it's unlikely it'll die anytime soon.

Also you'd have to be severely lacking intelligence to think this isn't a good idea. As noted in the article it hasn't stated whether people will get a choice (like Facebook gives). As long as their is a choice to flip between its a no brainier.
Dorsey sounds like such a dork when responding to the uproar over this proposed change. Typical autistic antisocial loser.
Well, one could posit that Facebook's model hasn't worked against them .. so maybe the idea isn't as stupid as some folks are suggesting.
I think when social media accounts become as hugs as many of them do, algorithms based on your usage will generally be a better display of content than a chronological one will.
I hope though, that Twitter doesn't start throttling business' feeds, like FB do. Here I think youtube has a much better mechanism .. don't throttle content providers, but actually incentivize them to reach a larger audience, and both Google AND the provider benefit.
So what, doesn't everybody use an alternative app anyways? The API won't change...
Twitter is here to stay, mainly due to direct communication with celebrity figures. The rich are too vain to turn it off, the masses too dumb to stop watching.
Facebook is nothing more than spam now and is dying off because of it. They'll be around because of their massive cash flow and acquisition of other companies. But it will be an empty shell of a parent company.
Twitter is looking to make money. What do they have to sell?
