Also, what would be the best breakfast to eat??
Also, what would be the best breakfast to eat??
Coffee an hour before.
I eat a sub or left over pizza. Sometimes donuts or those little cherry pies that come wrapped up. I eat 1:47 minutes before the race. That gives my food 51 minutes to digest before I start my warm up. Best 10k ever had chili cheese dogs after the race so I had a couple of those before doing my cool down.
PB&J sandwich and coffee 2 hours before the race.
Depends on the race.
If it's 10:00 or earlier, coffee 90 minutes ahead of time.
Noon - 2 - something light 4-5 hours out, usually oatmeal or bagel/cream cheese.

I couldn't even imagine going 4-5 hours without food. How do you do that?
I usually have a Clif bar, a banana, and a glass of water about 2 hours before start time. About 30 minutes to an hour before the start I will have a strong cup of coffee. You will want to try this in training first to see how your stomach handles it.
Thanks, this is the first piece of quality advice I have received I appreciate it

Seriously? I'm talking about eating breakfast at 8:00 for a noon race. Don't most people do that every day?

You are a head case. Your body will not benefit from eating any closer than that.
Far-er ahead is better than nearer ahead, for me.
And one tip: dont drink a red bull 30 minutes before the start. That stuff gave me horrible stitches midway

I dont think running a race after you have been starving for 2 hours is a good plan. I eat about an hour before I run every day. Why would I change that on race day?

Because you'll race better if you stop doing that. You'll also race better if you sleep through the night rather than waking up for a snack after 4-5 hours.

I am able to sleep 8 hours without getting up to eat. During waking hours I eat about every 2 hours. Small meals. To make it 4-5 hours, I would have to eat such a large meal I would feel crappy the next couple hours. I would rather feel good all the time.
I did go a little overboard at a half marathon this summer. Ate 3 big pieces of deep dish pizza right before I went to bed. Ate another piece for breakfast. My stomach started aching right before the race but went away after 4 miles and I had all kinds of extra energy for the last half of the race.

If you already think this is quality advice, why did you ask in the first place?
Maybe you should try my suggestion before you dismiss it. Most of you banana and bagel eaters are the guys I am blowing by at 4 miles after I get my donuts digested!!
