Check out New Balance. I am currently running in the 980, and like it very much. The 890 also worked well for me. The 1500 has gotten excellent reviews. Also NB is the only major brand that still makes some of their shoes in the USA.

I'm a big fan of the current addidas lineup and recommend you give them a shot. I currently run in the following:

Boston boost: most runs including long runs, easy runs, steady state runs and tempo runs. These shoes strike a good balance between responsiveness and coushioning allowing you to run fast without feeling beat up. I get between 800 and 1000 miles out of a pair before the outsole gets worn down to the foam and the upper starts to tear.

Takumi Sen boost: workouts and marathon racing shoe. These are great shoes but fairly expensive so I typically only use them when it counts. The forefoot coushioning is sufficient for a marathon and the weight of the shoe is just right.

Glide boost: easy recovery runs. I'm not as big of a fan of these. I find them to be quite heavy but like them for recovery runs. They feel like giant marshmallows. Btw- they last forever. I can't seem to wear mine out.

Adios boost: I have these but don't like them. The older Eva version was great but I find the boost version to be slower for some reason. I don't know why. It might be a personal thing.

Overall I find adidas to be durable and have a great fit. Compared to other brands I've tried the past few years, they also feel faster and keep my feet feeling fresh even during periods of running high mileage.

Good overall review of the Adidas lineup here, but I would strongly recommend the Energy Boost over the Glide. The Glide is, as stated above, clunky. It's not a bad shoe by any means, but the Energy is simply amazing. The only potential issue is that it runs pretty narrow, so it's a hit or miss shoe. If it is a "hit", however, I guarantee you won't find a more pleasant shoe to run in.

I personally like the Adios, but I will agree that the Takumi Sen is on another level.

The Boston is probably the best shoe of the bunch -- incredibly versatile.

What problems have occurred as a result of the Nike shoes?

I ran in Pegasus and Vomeros for many years, switched to Asics Nimbus for many years and now wear them along with Altras. The Asics Cumulus is probably similar to the Pegasus. Tried Adidas several times and they run narrow and I always got blisters. Have some Boosts I wore for speed work but put aside, worth a look if you can wear 'em.

An elite runner once told me in truth he could wear a number of different shoes, so whoever wanted to sponsor him that would be the shoe he wore. I suspect this is why Meb wears Skechers.
