Let's talk to it. What do you think?
Favorites? Dark Horses? Team standings?
3k and 5k will be dirty: Lamere, Thorson, Cotton fifth year, Mazahieri, Hussein, Campbell, Hornor, Marquardt (3k). Some absolute stud will still be 7th or 8th

Cotton and Mazaheri might be the best duo in D3 history if Cotton is healthy. There have been a lot of guys that caliber, but none of them have had someone to train and push them in workouts. Those two and Lamere may all go under 29 in the 10k if they get in the right race.
Lamere, Cotton, Thorson, Campbell, Mazaheri, Marquadt should all be looking at very low 14s, maybe sun 14 for a few of them.
Is this the deepest the distance events have ever been?

You mean like Brady & Spain at NC back in 2010?
Forgot to mention Zach Plank. Of course he will be in the mix there too.
Brady ran 30:06 and 14:27. Spain ran 14:15 and 29:37 his senior year. Maybe TFRRS is missing some results, but it looks like Cotton and Mazaheri have both surpassed Brady's times and are pretty dang close to Spain's PR's GOING INTO their senior year. Although, I admit neither of them have won a national championship...

I guess another question would, how many of those guys will (or can) go sub 8 this year? I think LaMere could grind his way, along with Thorson, Marquardt and Mazahieri. If LaMere does the 3k, that is going to be a blaaaaaaazin time come nationals.
Cotton will also blaze the 3k in sub 4:20 pace.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Marquardt going 100% in on the mile indoors. Horowitz went from 4:06 to 4:00 in one year. Marquardt is starting at 4:04. He'd be crazy not to go for the sub 4 and try and take the mile crown from Escher. That being said, Escher on a fast track like BU could easily scare 4:00 as well.
Black will be gunning for Scheetz's 1:47 at Valentine. Three Fastest 800 runners from last indoor season all return in Black, Hernandez, and Cattanach. They also happen to be the only guys from the indoor final that return.
The fields are absolutely loaded at every distance, the 3k especially. It's going to be a good year. When was the last time that the 800, Mile, 3k and maybe 5k records could all potentially be broken in the same season?
While I don't disagree that the records could go down, can someone post the actual records. Also without banked tracks in the midwest, it will be tough for some of these times to go down, because many of the 3k-5k studs may not have access to tracks like BU.
800m: 1:47.43 Ben Scheetz
Mile: 4:00.41 Coby Horowitz
3000m: 7:59.23 Dan Mayer
5000m: 13:57.13 Dan Mayer

I think Escher and Charlie both have a shot at breaking the mile record this year. (Also, don't forget Campbell has run 3:45 as well)
I believe Campbell and Thorson both have a shot to take that 3k record down as well as they have a great mix of endurance and speed.
On second thought, Paul Escher could also approach or break the 8 minute mark with 4:02 mile speed and some great endurance (6th in XC). Campbell and Escher sure are lucky to have each other to train with everyday, that definitely factors into their shots of breaking these records.
As for the 5k and 800 records, I see these as being a little more unlikely to fall this year. After his dominating xc performance I see LaMere getting damn close to that record but I predict we don't see any sub 14s until outdoor rolls around.

Good point, but I think the Campbell/Escher duo may edge them out. 3 NCAA titles between them by their Junior year as well as some very impressive PRs.
Any other impressive d3 duos historically? I'm not as well read on past years
Isaac Garcia-Cassani will be a force in the mile as well. 4:10 as a freshman and now coming off an 8th place finish in XC.
I wonder if Isaac might move up. Seems like he could be a great 3k/5k guy. It is hard to know where he has more upside.
What about Mitch Gilbert? He ran 14:47 a few times.

Actually Mayer's 5K was 13:53.17. He ran that at the Div. III nationals, on a flat track, lapping the field. His splits were 4:27 (1600), 8:54 (3200), 13:21 (4800).

I find it highly unlikely he perfectly even split that race.
