Hi there,
Answers below. Hope it helps
1. What is your name, idc if its an alias but I need some thing to put on the paper :-p
Mike
2.how old are you?
31
3.How long have you been running?
On and off for 20 years
4.what was your first real race?
800m in a inter-school sports aroun 1996. Came 1st in 2:32
5.why do you run?
Mostly now for health & fitness but I also for self achievement and the mental aspect it brings. Nothing better than finishing a nice long run early in the morning and having the entire day ahead of you.
6.what type of runner are you (marathoner, cross country, ultra runner, etc)?
I was competitve mostly at track 800m / 1500m but also have done roads, XC, indoor and planning a marathon at some point
7.why do you think running is different from other sports?
Putting aside the drug cheats, it's the purest sport out there - the fastest athlete on the day wins
8. What does running mean to you?
health, fitness, feeling good, freedom, cleansing, well being
9.why do some people not like to run?
self conscious, takes a while to get into the groove, lazyness, for some, just not their thing
10. Is running a sport or a lifestyle in your mind?
It's both and of course the more you do, the more these two blur
11. Has running taught to anything about life? If so, what?
Respect your fellow sporting compatriots; fairplay, how to achieve, how to plan
12. Have you been a mentor to someone younger than you?
No
13. Have you ever had a running mentor? If so, what did you learn from that?
Yes, my late father. He got me started and always instilled the philosphy that sometimes less is more; respect your limits and always be brutally honest with your capabilities.
14. Why have humans kept running all these years?
It's innate within us from our hunter gathering past. But now, it's become such an easy from of keeping fit. Just get some decent trainer and away you go. Simplicity is the key thing to it.
15. Is running more about the power of your legs, or the power of your spirit?
Both. You can have the best legs (athletic build) but if you don't have the drive and mentally tough spirit then you won't really improve. The best athletes in the world have some of the best spirits.
Wow thank you sooooo much. God bless.
This is a great thread. Makes me want to go for a run. Well done to both of you.
Mike's answers are shockingly similar to what mine would have been. Or maybe it shouldn't be too shocking? Dunno. Pretty similar though.
