4 weeks ago, a teammate of mine tripped me in the middle of a run. I landed in gravel right on my knees. I bruised them, and they were swollen enough that I was limping around... I had to spend the next few days running easy on soft surfaces till they recovered. Icing and ibuprofen helped minimally, but it was rest and time that really made it go away in about 3 days.
About a two weeks ago, I fell off my bike, and again landed right on my knees. Same deal -- swelling, limping around, ice, ibuprofen, few days easy. This time, however, the pain did NOT go away. Instead, it's persisted since the incident. Whenever I lift or bend my knees, I feel sharp pain. The swelling will not subside, no matter how much ibuprofen I take. It's made running, walking around, and living a disaster for me. At first, the pain was concentrated exclusively in my right knee. Just yesterday, I began feeling it in my left as well.
I cannot afford to take any time off. My regional meet is 2 weeks from now. I have no idea what to do. I have no access to sports medicine, because I am running club, and there are no sports doctors in my college town.
Does anyone know what is happening to me? Can anyone please offer any advice?
PS. Apologies for the awful grammar. I can't muster the willpower to proofread this right now.
