Hi, I am in a D1 team and was wondering what's the amount of meets I can run. I have heard of the 2 or 20% rule but I haven't found the official rules on the ncaa page.

It is bylaw 14.2.4 :
"(c) In team sports, the injury or illness occurs when the student-athlete has not participated in more than three contests or dates of competition (whichever is applicable to that sport) or 30 percent (whichever number is greater) of the institution's scheduled or completed contests or dates of competition in his or her sport. Only scheduled or completed competition against outside participants during the playing season that concludes with the NCAA championship, or, if so designated, during the official NCAA championship playing season in that sport (e.g., spring baseball, fall soccer), shall be countable under this limitation in calculating both the number of contests or dates of competition in which the student-athlete has participated and the number of scheduled or completed contests or dates of competition during that season in the sport. "
It used to be 20 percent, but that was changed.
You can run in ZERO meets to "red-shirt."
If you have a medical condition that ends your season that is documented by team doctors to your training room and to compliance, then you can have run in no more than 33% of the meets and that must have happened in the first half of the season.
What happened was I got a foot injury competed in 2 of the 6 meets and the athletic trainers told me to take the rest of the season off. However my coach is telling me that this medical waiver is only to people who had severe injuries such as broken bones, surgery, etc . And since that didn't happen to me he says I Won't be able to redshirt
sounds like your coach doesn't want you around for an additional year.
medical redshirt requires documentation of season ending injury from doctor

Get a doctor's note (not a trainer) and present it to your coach. He should recognize it then.
Have you known any other teammates who previously redshirted?
