Hey all, so last year during xc I was able to run a 5k in about 16:30. Then in track I ran the mile 4:33 and two mile in 9:58. This summer I built a base to about 60 miles a week, mainly singles. I rarely did my runs hard, most of em easy with a tempo here and there. However, my cross country season has suffered. So far i'm a senior and the fastest I've ran a 5k this year has been 18:30. I seriously don't know what's wrong with me. I did mile repeats about a week ago and was able to hit 5:30- 5:45 consistently. I also was able to do 6 x 800s in about 2:40-2:45. I could even do my long run(12 miles) at about 7:00 minute pace and close in sub 6.
Here's a typical schedule:
Monday: mile repeats or 800s usually 5k length. about 6-8 miles total. Strides
Tuesday: 6-8 mile run easy about 7:30 pace
Wednesday: 4-6 miles easy/same pace. strides
Thursday: Tempo/dual meet about 6 miles total for the day
Friday: 2 mile shakeout and strides
Saturday: race (18:30)
Sunday: hills/ long run done at moderate effort (about 6:45-7-10)
So can anyone please help me??? I was getting noticed by colleges before the season but now I feel like they won't be interested. Am I running to much or too little? Too hard or too easy? I used to be able to run 16:50 on the same course sophomore year(didn't race there last year). I eat a pretty healthy diet and sleep about 7 hours a night, I just can't figure it out.
P.S.- My right leg feels tired/ numb. I don't know if that's a sign. It's felt like this since my dual meet a few days ago. Maybe I overtrained or have an iron deficiency, but I just got my levels checked and should come back with results soon. I really just need help. Thank you.
