greetings on last day of world champs. good week of training for me incl.:
4 miles at half-marathon pace Monday 25:56 [a little slow, maybe tired from hilly run sunday]
6 X 1200 (400 jog) at 5k pace thurs. average 4:15 (all 4:14 to 4:17) -- more like it. aim was 4:18 or better
I've been enjoying watching worlds. Felt bad for Molly Huddle losing bronze after letting up before the line. Easy to just say she was stupid to do so, but there's something about thinking you have it in the bag....
I used to preach to my kids' track program proteges to focus forward and go hard to the line ("there's no suspense about it. You know they're coming behind you"), but I would still slip up on this sometimes. I once heard the PA announcer call out the name of my then-rival, who had almost come back on me with about 50 meters left in a marathon, and I found another gear to hold him off for first master. In principle, I should have been all out regardless, but easier said than done.
have a great week,
Dave
