No one will read this thesis, but I actually think it holds water. I don't think that Millennial thinking is that far removed from most other generations, but for some reason (Social Media, obviously), the Mainstream Media has figured out a way to profit from it and has tried very hard to market it as more than it really is. I am not sure if this is out of fear or for reasons of profit, but it works a lot like High School politics.
Interesting to see someone articulate it so well, but I wouldn't expect that anyone would take the time to read this, especially those who quickly identify with the subject of the piece.
I have a former co-worker who is a lobbyist for Planned Parenthood, and it has been interesting to watch this video-situation play out on Social Media. He and his Choice advocates have been working overtime to attack the CMP and anyone of online stature who even touches the issue. It is scary. I mean, it isn't that unique to blindly defend your team (JoPa, Ray Rice, etc.), but one would like to think that normal humans can see evil when it exists. You can support Choice while opposing what is clearly evident in the unedited videos.
The whole thing is so weird but, again, I think it is a normal mindset that has been given a larger stage due to Social Media and the support of the Mainstream Media.
I do not completely understand "social justice". So, with that being said, one question... justice in the eyes of whom? To me, it seems that "justice" is subjective.
One mans 'terrorist', may just simply be a freedom fighter.

Maybe that is because it is one of those words the Left is trying hard to redefine on a high academic level. Take it back to the horseshoe theory.
Great article. I wish I had more time to comment on it. This line really stuck out to me: "If the arc of the moral universe bends toward justice, then the arc of the political spectrum bends toward authoritarianism at both ends." Pretty damned apt.

Uh... Yeah that is the horseshoe theory... but it is pretty damned apt.

I think it's somewhat of a simplification, libertarianism and anatchiydm are pretty radically right and left respectively, but you couldn't really describe either as "authoritarian". Although, then again you probably could.
What I mean is, the people with the loudest voices are often pretty authoritarian, even self declared moderates.
Great insight in your comments! I agree that this phenomenon is not exclusive to Millennials. The whole Social Media thing, combined with over-saturation on TV makes it easy for manipulation. Media agenda combined with an agenda in education.
Unfortunately I also agree that few will actually read the article. It exceeds the attention span of most people these days. It's too bad. Whether you agree with every point the writer makes or not, its it worth consideration at the very least.
Interestingly, if what the writer talks about isn't checked, the very people that are acting out this way will eventually become its victims as well. Case in point, Robespierre was responsible for 17,000 executions by guillotine (purging of French Society) after the French Revolution, only to eventually be guillotined himself.
Great read, unfortunately it has been praised and tweeted by right wingers which will result in many writing it off as just an attack on social justice, ironically what the article is about.
I always thought that it was social INJUSTICE that must be fought, but apparently these muppets think otherwise.

It is... How did you come to the conclusion someone was arguing otherwise?
Prime example:
I love animals and don't agree with what this guy did, but some of these people are just ridiculous. You can't express disapproval without being hateful and saying you want him dead?
Animal rights are something that I'm hugely passionate about (yes, I'm vegan) but what the internet outrage machine has done to Walter Palmer is sick. We have due process in America, mob justice is not justice at all. I wish him nothing but the worst but retribution needs to happen through the legal system, there is still a chance he's innocent. Have people forgotten Salem?

Agreed. Not just dead, but slowly and painfully tortured. I also love animals and hate big game hunting, but these people are not just ridiculous, they are sick in the head.
Do these not constitute real threats? I mean, I would be scared if I were him. Can he not fight back against this kind of thing?
I guess I need to also state that I am against big game hunting.
Excellent article.
