I'm a collegiate runner and I pulled something around my groin- I think my adductor (likely from playing soccer, not running) in late may, but didn't think too much of it at the time. I noticed it more when I was trying to do the hill sprints on my training plan around mid June because I was unable to actually sprint since the strain would not let me really extend my stride or put a lot of power into my sprint. As a result of the strain, I also could not do the tempo runs or faster paced distance runs on my plan and just did those workouts as regular distance runs.
Around late June, I noticed the strain was not really getting better and while it did not significantly bother me during my runs, I could definitely feel it towards the end of a run. Starting to get slightly worried about not being able to do any workouts, I talked to my coach and he suggested I take a few days off. After doing so, I started running again and could still feel the strain. I got a new pair of shoes (old ones were definitely past their limit) and the pain seemed to slightly subside the first one or two runs but now it's pretty much the same (comes and goes, some runs it'll be somewhat nagging, other runs I'll only slightly notice it during the run). My coach is having me run every other day, but I'm not sure that's doing much good because I'm not recovering it seems nor am I getting much of a benefit from the training.
I was looking to get therapy but it'll cost a lot more than I can afford since I'll be paying for it instead of my parents and I can get therapy from our trainers once I get back though (including ART). In the meantime, I'm still going to try to see if there are more affordable therapy options available. Would you think that it would be best if I stop running and just start aqua jogging, maybe even twice a day, or might aqua jogging make it worse since I'll be extending my legs for that as well? Would KT tape be useful or should I only use that once the strain is pretty much healed? Any other things I could/should do?
I know most people here aren't doctors, but I just wanted to hear what suggestions you may have. I'll relay what I hear here to my coach the next time I can talk to him and see what we decide. Greatly appreciate any help or advice you may be able to provide!
