I've always kind of wondered, what does an "elite" or very good HS athlete do in their daily life, particularly in the summer? Run, lift, sleep all day then go run again?

I did 1:53 for the 800 in HS, don't know if that qualifies as "elite" or not.
Anyway in summer I'd wake up and go meet with the team for daily mileage at 8:00am. Sometimes I'd do track workouts or tempos while everyone else did their easy runs - I was coaching myself at the time. I did a max of 65 mi/wk in singles.
After around 9:30am when I got home I lived the life of a normal HS kid - hang out with friends, play pickup soccer, videogames, etc. A good low-stress lifestyle building up to the school year. Usually tried to get to sleep reasonably early.
However for me XC was more like the offseason than real important racing. The winter and spring building up to track was much more structured and intense.
1:53 is fast
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
