Looks like Leo doesn't want a max cushioned shoe for racing.

That's going to be Hoka's problem going forward: once the gimmick of max cushioned shoes wears off, what are they left with?
I've found Hokas aren't particularly comfortable or well-built, even though they have a premium price. What sets them apart is the thick midsole combined with a minimal heel-toe drop. If they start making traditional running shoes (and the Road Rocket looks like a step in that direction), what justifies them compared to other established brands?
To put it another way, Hoka has been built solely on the concept of thick midsoled running shoes. If they move away from that, are they not admitting that traditional running shoes may be superior?
I just ran a fantastic 10k in my Cliftons. Looked at my Fastwich 15 minutes before the race and decided to go with the cushioning because there were a couple downhills I wanted to crush. Super cushioned shoes will never go out of style with older runners and ultra runners.
Just because xc runners wear spikes to race in doesn't mean they are going to wear them for a road 12 miler.
They are trying to give people more than one option. Many big name brands have tried to come out with a shoe that does the same thing as hokas, such as brooks did with the transcend.
It allows for them to have multiple different feels and concepts. The rocket will be for people who don't like something like a clifton for workouts. Compare it to nikes streak/adidas's adios/new balance 1500.
Expect to see nike have similar ideology with shoes in the coming months, they just dropped a shoe with hoka's ideology. The Free Run Distance, 4mil drop with high cushioning.

Looks like a great shoe!
Pretty much every company has a super cushioned shoe now. Looks like Hoka knew what they were doing.
