Just curious from others. I'm about to hear my offer and was curious about others experience.

over the years, sure i have been relocated. once from the midwest to the south and once from the south to new england. won't leave NE now so no more relocation.
use it as a way to get where your interested (physically in this case) in going. have a company pay your way to go somewhere
its also crazy expensive how much a relocation/moving service ends up costing. like way more than you expect. but the company is paying for it....
That's what I was wondering. I'd being moving 9 hrs away. It doesn't seem like it would cost much, but the more I ask, people say it adds up like crazy.
I'm curious how much a typical relocation package is??
Yes, about 15 years ago for a cross country move & the offer was about 5K.
5K would be nice. Thanks for the response. Hopefully I'm offered one.
Three years ago I was offered a $2k relocation package to move 3 hours (PA>DC).
I relocated recently and received $2500. This did not cover all of the expenses but was a big help. We used it for loaders, unloaders, UHaul rental, deposit on our new apartment and first months rent. Gas for the UHaul was also a MAJOR expense. It's good if they are offering a relocation package.
My last 4 corporate moves have each been well over 100k. Many things go into it such as selling assistance, temporary housing, house hunting trips, purchase assistance, move, storage, transportation to and from old and new location, etc...you get the idea. Packages range all the way from the 2k do it yourself to VIP we wipe your ass. There is a tremendous amount of information available from reputable sources. Make sure you understand what is offered and what is not being offered. Best of luck.
Great stuff. Appreciate this. I'm still young and been in the field for 4 years. This is more entry level position, but for a great company. Even a couple $K would be great. I'll have to let you know what is offered.
even my first job 15 years ago I got a househunting trip (gas/meal) paid for as well as $ to the uhaul.
my last relo about 10 yrs ago (midwest to south) they paid flight/lodging/food for 96 hr house hunting trip, then full relo for house.
I wasn't sr enough to get a house-selling assistance, but they paid full freight for hte movers to pack/load/drive everything down there.
I drove my car down myself over a couple days.
Really depends on the position. Relo can be a point of neg once you are the candidate of choice.
Are you moving to Delhi? Seems Ive seen some leads on services there...
When I was 22 in 2006, I was offered 3k to move across the country. I turned down the job though. I took another one which didn't offer anything, but the salary was higher. I recently moved across the country again a couple months ago but didn't get offered anything. I think these offers are rare now since the crash in 2008.
My company just relocated me from DC to Denver. They paid for the movers, my flight, hotel while waiting for movers, and transporting my car. I also received a $2k stipend to pay for incidentals. Total it came to about $11k, which actually comes out of my operating budget for the year.
I received a relocation package in my most recent management position. There wasn't a "budget," just basically whatever it took to move my family. It included a recruitment trip for my wife to be comfortable with the area and allowed for two house shopping visits to select where we would live. I received 60 days of fully paid housing while we organized the family. She drove her car and the company paid for my personal car to be transported to me. They paid for full moving of all of our household furniture, etc. Pretty seamless process, they took care of everything, including reimbursements on hotel and mileage (as it was a long drive for my wife).
Twice. Both times the companies paid full cost for movers and storage. Second time, the company also paid brokers commission on the sale of my old house, and points on my new mortgage. I had to commit to staying for a year or so, but that was no big deal.
Don't negotiate the moving package dollar amount. Negotiate the MOVE. That way, the entire damn thing is paid for.
About three years ago for my first job out of college my company paid $5K for me to relocate. I only had to move 4hrs away, but I think i used my home address growing up when I applied which was about 8hrs from the company.
Needless to say this was a great deal for me since coming from college had very little to move. Basically loaded up my truck and drove to the where my job was.
Move from NYC to Tampa Bay.
Paid for everything and more.
We were renting so no sale of home but paid for all issues related to purchasing a home in FL. Closing costs, real estate commissions and attorney.
Temporary housing for the length of move into home as long as contract to purchase was executed within 90 days. If you elected to build a home this could mean six to nine months of temporary housing which was far nicer than the apartment we had in NYC.
A 3 day fact finding trip and 2 seven day house hunting trips with all expenses paid.
Every dime of moving expenses paid for and the final trip including shipment of vehicles was paid for.
A $10,000 check for "sundry" expenses.
On several overseas moves, from $3k to $10k cash and then I’ve had a couple reimbursable budgets with first month housing, flight stuff - then another one was “included” in a much larger signing bonus.
Make sure you understand the costs.
A cross country move can be easily over $10,000 just to get the stuff out of one place to another.
