The likelyhood though is probably lower given collegiate athletics' focus on points rather than records. Pre had the advantage of being a natural front runner, and set most of his ARs without the advantage of rabbitting. Gerry Lindgren was one of the few others that would lead races during that era, and he was all but through with college just as Pre entered the collegiate scene.
You look at today's collegiate studs like King Ches, and see that most of them prefer to run sit-and-kick races. At this time I'm not aware of any high-caliber collegiate runners who like to front run, at least in big meets. Sorantos?
