I am hoping to get some insight from anyone who has coached an injured runner or BEEN injured more than a short period of time and is starting from complete scratch. I'm trying to find a healthy idea of what a progressive minute or mileage build up should look like over the course of a 12 month period.
I myself am a former 5k/10k runner in college (17:30/35:xx). Ran one marathon post-collegiately. Nothing superb but I have some experience.
Had bilateral hip arthroscopy in 2011 and 3rd surgery in 2013.
I've been starting with walking/jogging and am now jogging up to 5 miles at a time but it's about 2 days a week mixed with the elliptical. I'd like to possibly back down a little to allow for proper adaptation and avoid any overuse injury or stress fracture. I have been lifting a lot and feel strong but do not feel "running" strong.
My question is has anyone followed a specific plan or periodization of some sort that they felt was safe and effective? Any references would be greatly appreciated, thank you!!
