This has just got to rattle the OCD coaches and athletes. ECAC not only publishes hand time qualifying standards but every year even revised standards are based off of hand times. Example this year the 1500m was revised to 4.34.0 hand, 4.34.24 F.A.T.. Note that they don't follow the convention of not adding 0.24 to hand times for distance races but carrying it all the way through the 10K. (37:40.24) Got to plan in case someone runs a 37:40.1 hand time! They even still allow hand times for the 100m hurdles 14.3 hand, 14.54 F.A.T. NCAA requires FAT and wind readings. Direct Athletics /TFRRS has been used for qualifying the past five years and they make the conversions for indoor track size just fine. Fully automatic timing was used 50 years ago in the 1964 Olympics. ECAC dropped yards but the turn of the century came and went 15 years ago and hand time standards persist.
