Im gonna say he runs a 3;58 outdoors.. But what do i know, I'm just a moose.
He is a wonderful competitor. Very excited to see him run for Stanford.
Definitely, dropping 10 seconds in the mile at that level is pretty common. I also think Webb himself will win the gold in the 800 at Rio.
I set the odds at 1 in 500.
Hey guys, I believe in myself. I don't care what you guys think.

A self hating moose. This is why you meese never get ahead.
3:53 will never be broken unless it's by some transplant from Africa.
Agreed. No American born runner will EVER break Webby's HS mile record. The collegiate mile record isn't much faster.
Fisher almost ran 4:00 by himself indoors. Webb ran 3:59 with guys pushing him at the same juncture. I predict 3:56 if he runs in Pre.
Fisher's coach is too smart to try. He wants Grant's best days to be ahead of him when he graduates. The kind of insane training that would be required to squeeze out a 3:53 in the next few months is too detrimental to his long-term development. For this reason I HOPE he does not break Webb's record!
3:56 is far from 3:53 and that is even unlikely Fisher will get that. He hasn't run sub 4 and you are saying 3:56? No way.
Just watched the video again. After relaxing a bit on the 3rd 400m, he was at 3:03.6 with 400m to go, and then 3:33.5 with 200m to go. At the bell he noticeably picked it up and was flying down the backstretch. :27 is pretty automatic for him right now. And just prior to his trip up, he was absolutely flying. A :27.5 puts him at 4:01.0. All by himself. And looking quite composed doing it. I'm not even sure Webb could do that his senior year indoors. He was dragged to a 3:59.9.However, to take 8 seconds off by June is an incredible feat, and in my opinion it's a bit much to ask. In a Pre Classic type setting on a perfect day, maybe 3:55.X. Which is INCREDIBLE for a high schooler.I want to know how the hell he trains in these last couple Michigan winters. It's demoralizing sometimes. (For old, fat wimps like me I suppose.)

I'm not even going to read the other post in this thread
NO!
Does he have the potential? Yes, but look at how hard Webb was training relative to how Grant is training now; If Grant was training that hard I say he has a chance, but his coach is trying to be conservative which in my opinion is the best option down the road, he doesn't need to be another college burn out
Grant is going to run 3:58 outdoors, go to Standord, have a solid 4 years, maybe a couple NCAA championships, and then be a contender for the U.S. 1500m as a pro
If the above is going to happen, I don't think pushing his body to the well for his SR year of school to try and get 3:53 (in which he still might not even get) just for the heck of it is the best route

How does hard training mess up someone's future career? Eliud Kipchoge ran 12:52 to win the WC 5000 at 18 and is still going strong 12 years later. Presumably he was going some hard training.
Have you seen Webb's 3:53? It was a perfect race!!!! Hicham El Guerrouj was in it!!!!!!
0/10. Try harder next time.

Webb was a college dropout, not a burnout.

Ummm, did you know that Webb DROPPED 6.5 seconds when he set the mile NR?

What about "student" athletes who compete in college for four years, but dropout out and fail to ever get a degree, like Rupp?
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
