Hi all,
Started training for my 2nd marathon in January after taking an entire month off running while home for the holidays. In retrospect, that was dumb because it was too much, too soon. As soon as I came back, I noticed pain that got worse as I ran right above my ankle bone (outside). It finally got so bad, I was limping. Saw a sports specialist who pressed on the tender spot until I yelled in pain and performed the hop test- deemed it a stress reaction. Took 2 weeks off- bike only. Came back a week ago 3-4 miles every other day. It isn't painful but I can tell there was an injury there. The discomfort increases throughout. I go home and ice immediately (always) and take aleve. My question is: my race is May 3. How can i build up to a long run without regressing? I'm fearful of getting a stress fracture but I'm optimistic that walking pain free and minor discomfort running are signs my Stress reaction is healed. There is also a bump near where my bone was tender- normal???
