Is there any post collegiate groups in la 800-1500 looking for perhaps even a group of 1:48 or so type guys to train with? Or a coach if around?
Email if interested or know anyone

Santa Monica Track Club
LA is primarily-sprint oriented. There have been a couple of attempts at elite-level mid-distance clubs in recent years, but other than SMTC, they haven't been able to survive. There are a couple of clubs like Cal Coast that have people like Pete Magill and Cushing-Murray, but they are more masters-oriented and not at the same performance level. There is nobody on any distance that can touch John Smith or Bob Kersey.
Other than SMTC, contact Joaquim Cruz, who, at least up to now, has been coaching at the OTC in Chula Vista (San Diego). I know he was coaching Alice Schmidt and may have others at that class level,
LA tends to be the place where good mid-distance people come to race rather than train.

Here are some names for you to consider in the LA area:
1. Joe Douglas (SMTC)- I think Joe is semi retired, but he does coach a couple of decent 800 meter runners. I'm not sure if he will take on new runners,
2. Forest Braden- (UCLA)- Forest is a good distance coach, and the Bruins do have Hartle (1:48) in their program. I don't know if Forest shares the Mid-D guys with another coach like he did when Johnny Gray was at UCLA.
3. Tom Walsh (LBSU)- Tom coached many years at USC, focusing mainly on Mid-D runners. He currently coaches at LBSU. They have Chris Low (1:48) @ LBSU. Not sure if he is lives in the LA area anymore.
4. Scott Guerrero (LMU)- Scott is a very good distance coach at LMU. I don't know what his 800 meter credentials are. But he seems good.
thanks!
