Hello, I'm a male freshman runner and I ran a 5:24 mile this weekend on an indoor track. This was off of base training, I have had exactly 5 true speed/V02 max workouts and have been doing mainly easy runs, tempo runs, fartleks, and long runs at marathon pace. After my tempo runs I would do some R (mile pace) reps like in Daniels plans but the most volume I ever got with one of those was 4x400 at around mile race pace, maybe even slower, with about a minute rest in between. I am going to start moving into speedwork several times a week and still keeping my mileage up, so do you think I could break this year? I understand that it depends on talent and how hard I work at it, but is it in the realm of possibility?
