There are too many posts about hobby joggers. Let's have an actual discussion about running.

The time that sets a world record and/or wins. Everything else is hobby jogging.
Elite is Olympic A standard. Olympic B standard is sub-elite.
Faster than this:
13:30
28:00
1:02
2:12
That leaves Verran off the list. I thought he said that he was elite?

Sure, lots of runners who are considered elite wouldn't make my 'cut', but I do believe that if you can't hit those times (at least, yet) you are sub-elite, especially on the world stage - and not much more in the grand scheme of things.

This is not simply elite, its the times of someone who could be a genuine world-beater.

Saying a "time that sets a world record and wins" is redundant. Your use of "and/or" was excessively superfluent. Do not waste our time like that again. You have been formally warned.
Zero point zero. Anything slower is too unambitious.
Agree with Olympic A standard.

I would define an elite distance runner as being in the top 10% of your given field/ group.

Fun fact: In both the long jump and triple jump it is possible to set a WR and lose to someone who did not set a WR.

According to AthLinks, I am in the top 10% for a lot of my times. But I only run a 15:00, 31:30, etc.

+1, easy weeks those are ridiculous. That just says that there's like 2 American elites lol. Correct times-
1500- sub 3:40
5K- sub 13
10K- sub 28:30
Marathon-sub 2:10

"Elite" is not "World Class".
Elite to me would be:
Mile - sub 4
5000 - sub 13:30
10000 - sub 28
Marathon - sub 2:11
There are not many folks walking around that can run these times.
Any hobby jogger can go fast if they're only doing 5k or a marathon.
Elite runners are those that can race 50 or 100 miles.

Please don't ever equate running 65 minutes in the half to 13:20 or 28:00 again. Please.

You don't understand how letsrun is played. The more ridiculous your standards, the cooler you are. Hence the 8 million "every healthy man should be able to run a 4:30 mile" threads.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
