Hi, I've been lurking on this website for a while and now that I finally have a unique issue I feel like I'd ask you guys for help.
some background info:
I'm currently a freshman at a d1 school which doesn't have mens xc or track
In high school I was able to have a 5k PR of 17:35
After track ended (4:45 mile, 10:15 2 mile) I focused on weight lifting since I knew I wouldn't be running at the school I chose
But the college I chose may not be the fit for me. I hate the giant greek system, friends are hard to come by since it's still small for a d1 school, and I don't know if I really fit in here. Back in high school I always considered running d3 and visited a number of schools and met with coaches who all told me I could run there and really improve. But I thought I didn't need XC to make really great friends like I did in high school so I decided to go to a d1 school which had my major and start a second life as a non runner. But ever since school started I've had regrets. Now that second semester has started and all my friends are frat and I'm not I have so much more free time and I'm reconsidering my choice.
The only problem is I have not been training hard ever since the end of may and when I went to do a speed workout today, I didn't feel so helpless since I first started running. Its expected though with all the time off. I know the rigors of running in college, but I always have thought runners were crazier than most people. I never had any natural ability with running, I just worked hard on my endurance and speed (400 mile summers) so I fear I may have just lost everything I had when it came to running. Would it be feasible to try and transfer to a d3 school to run, and how long/hard would it be before I was even resembling where I was at before I took so much time off?
