I'm a collegiate distance runner who has been dealing with fatigue issues for over two years now. I do not do a ton of miles (average 70-75 while at school) and we workout twice a week plus a long run. Pretty typical stuff. It got to the point that I couldn't finish workouts or even consider competing in a race. My legs felt heavy on a daily basis. It felt like I was getting fevers regularly. I had a ton of tests done... checking for anemia, thyroid problems, lyme disease, sleep disorders, but everything came back normal. I took three weeks off, which probably was not enough time, and then this summer ran 20-30 miles a week with one or two weeks at 40. I ran slow, didn't do workouts, and was taking vitamins and on a diet to treat adernal fatigue. Besides the occasional run, I still felt tired, heavy legs for the majority of my runs. I came back to campus and tried to slowly work up to 40-50 miles per week, but as the mileage increased I just felt worse and worse and the feverish feelings started coming back. I finally decided to take more time off. I took 7 weeks completely off and slept a lot during this time. At least 10 hours every night. The only exercise I did was the occasional light weightlifting or ab workout. I started back up by running 20 minutes a day. I did that for about two weeks, but felt the same as before I took the time off. Heavy legs, started getting feverish feelings. Still had trouble waking up in the morning after 9-10 hours of sleep. Running 20 miles in a week is difficult right now and I can tell it isn't simply being out of shape. I feel the same as before just not to the same extreme. I'm at a loss for what to do. See more doctors? More time off? Tough it out and just start running everyday until things get better? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
