Anybody have any advice? The modern trends and websites (e.g. Warby Parker) seem to favor thick frames and glasses, but those don't seem to jive well with generally thinner-faced (and cheek-boned) runners.

I wear full rimmed glasses that are fairly thick rimmed.
I would highly advise against glasses with wire frames or no rims, as they very often look ugly.
This should go without saying but DO NOT GO FOR THE TRANSITIONS LENSES.
I wear dark thick-rimmed glasses, but I also have another pair that are reminiscint of the 1940s/1950s look. Just go to a store that sells and specializes in glasses and try some on.
