I want to move to Alexandria. Does anyone know of any museums or companies that would hire someone with degrees in history? I haven't had much luck with USAJOBS.gov prob because I'm not a veteran.

If you're really motivated to work in the museum/history field and you're just starting out, don't limit yourself geographically. Unless you get lucky you're going to have to be flexible and pay your dues (maybe even starting as an intern). That said, being near D.C. is a plus with the Smithsonian and many smaller museums nearby. If you're not already, start volunteering while you're waiting to move.
You may also want to earn a MLIS so you can work in an archives or public library, many of which have local history rooms.
I don't think that Walmart or a fast food franchise would hold the history degree against you.
I heard Starbucks is hiring.
Whatever you do, don't double down by getting a masters or LIS

Thanks for the intelligent response.
